Experience

Profile Picture

I have over 30 years experience as a fundraiser and a fundraising consultant. My notable achievements include:

  • securing over £10m in legacy pledges during my six years at National Mind
  • raising over $6m NZD (£3m) to double the size of Ronald McDonald House in Auckland, New Zealand
  • undertaking appeals to conserve, research and redisplay major collections of Fine Art, World Cultures and Natural Sciences at Bristol Museums.

During the earlier part of my career in London my focus was on not-for-profit marketing, donor development and gifts in wills, at organisations such as War on Want, the NSPCC and national Mind.

On moving to New Zealand in 2001 I began my career as a fundraising consultant, becoming the NZ Managing Consultant for international firm DVA Navion.

As a consultant in New Zealand I ran major capital campaigns and undertook fundraising audits, fundraising feasibility studies and direct marketing reviews for organisations including the national children’s hospital, a community foundation, and an international development agency.

Since my return to the UK in 2007 I have worked on Bristol Zoo’s Wild Place capital campaign before taking on interim roles including at TreeAid and Women’s Aid.

In 2011 I joined Bristol Culture as Head of Development, where I set up all its revenue fundraising including corporate fundraising packages, visitor giving and a strategic approach to grant-seeking.

As a trustee of the Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust, I chair its Heritage, Engagement and Development Committee. Through the Foundation for Social Improvement I provide pro-bono fundraising advice to small charities.
